A research conducted by the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) highlighted that in 2023 tourism and the overall hospitality industry, along with related supply chains, contributed 215 billion euros to the national PIL, representing a share of 10.5%. The same study revealed that one in eight jobs in Italy is linked to tourism. The record in 2023 was mainly achieved thanks to the spending by foreign tourists, which reached 51.4 billion euros.
However, the 2023 record might soon be surpassed by another record-breaking year in 2024. The total turnover is expected to reach 223.1 billion euros, an increase of 3.8% compared to 2023, with a contribution to the GDP close to 11%. The growth will be particularly notable in the incoming tourism sector, with a 10.3% increase compared to 2023.
