236 Blue Flag Beaches in Italy
This year, 236 seaside resorts in Italy can boast the Blue Flag. Additionally, 485 beaches have been classified as “excellent” for four consecutive years, representing 11.5% of those awarded worldwide.
The 14 new entries are: Ortona (Abruzzo), Parghelia (Calabria), Cellole (Campania), Borgio Verezzi (Liguria), Recco (Liguria), Porto Sant'Elpidio (Marche), Lecce (Puglia), Manduria (Puglia), Patù (Puglia), Letojanni (Sicily), Scicli (Sicily), Taormina (Sicily), Tenno (Trentino Alto Adige), Vallelaghi (Trentino Alto Adige). Four municipalities were not reconfirmed: Ameglia (Liguria), Taggia (Liguria), Margherita di Savoia (Puglia), and Marciana Marina (Tuscany).
Claudio Mazza, president of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) Italy, emphasized that, besides increasing the number of flags, “the awareness and sensitivity of citizens are also growing, to whom this recognition is owed. Every Blue Flag administration knows well that a virtuous management of the territory necessarily involves the education and involvement of individuals, schools, associations, local businesses, and all operators”.
