Malpensa Export: Italian Flavours Conquer the Middle East and India
Lulu's recently opened buying hub at the World Trade Centre in Lonate Pozzolo, near Malpensa Airport, represents a significant step forward in connecting Italian food with destinations in the Middle East and India. This new facility offers development opportunities for service companies in the Varese area and, at the same time, constitutes a valuable business opportunity for the Italian food industry. Two years after the initial announcement, the Lulu buying powerhouse is now fully operational. With an annual turnover of $8 billion, the Lulu group, based in Abu Dhabi but founded by an Indian entrepreneur named Yusuff Ali, is creating a direct link between Italian agri-food products and a potential customer base of 250 hypermarkets in 25 countries in the Middle East and Asia. The newly opened facility at Malpensa will directly take care of the procurement, processing, storage, packaging and export of Italian food products, ranging from Melinda apples and Zuegg fruit juices to Filotea pasta and Bauli pandoro, Amicha Chips to Annabella olives, Midi snacks to Matilde Vicenzi biscuits.
