Made in Italy: excellence and growth in the wood-furniture and design sector

From April 15th in Milan was held the Salone del Mobile that has just concluded: made in Italy in the wood-furniture and design sector is an authentic symbol of Italian excellence, ingenuity and creativity, deeply rooted in the very identity of the national industry. In this framework, the inauguration of the first Made in Italy Day represents a moment of celebration and recognition of the importance and intrinsic value of this supply chain in the global context.

Through the 2023 consolidated data, processed by the FederlegnoArredo Study Centre, the fundamental role of this sector for the Italian economy clearly emerges. With a total value of around 28 billion euros, the furniture macrosystem continues to make a significant contribution to the country's economic growth, with over 53% of its production destined for foreign markets. Despite a slight contraction compared to the previous year, exports still remain at higher levels in 2019, highlighting the sector's resilience and structural solidity.

France remains our main market, followed by the US and Germany, although there are some challenges and downsizing in some contexts. However, new opportunities are emerging in emerging markets such as India and the Arab Emirates, where there is a growing appreciation for Made in Italy. Beyond Europe's borders, there is growing interest in Italian’s products in countries such as Egypt and India, highlighting the global role and impact of our craftsmanship and design. However, the challenge of maintaining and increasing competitiveness in international markets persists. Innovation, quality and sustainability therefore remain the pillars on which the future success of Made in Italy in the wood-furniture and design sector will be based, consolidating our position as world leader in this field.
