Italian trade fair industry: revenues exceed 2019 levels
After the halt caused by the pandemic, the Italian trade fair industry is back in full swing, as reported by «Il Sole 24 Ore»: “€1.4 billion in turnover with an impact on the economy of the territories amounting to €22.5 billion and an added value of €10.6 billion, according to Prometeia estimates".
In 2023, the trade fair industry thus reconnected with the numbers from 2019, a record year for the system. The Italian Trade Fair Association (Aefi) reported a 22% increase in turnover (due to inflation +32% compared to 2019).
The challenge for 2024 is not only the full recovery of spaces (currently 10% lower compared to the last pre-Covid year in terms of occupied exhibition space), but also the consolidation of internationalization. The Italian trade fair industry ranks second in Europe for its ability to attract foreign exhibitors and visitors, fourth in the world in terms of volume but at the bottom of the list in terms of the ability to take its own events abroad and generate revenues.
