The Future of Outdoor Tourism: Trends and Opportunities at the Open-Air Forum
Alberto Granzotto, president of Faita Federcamping, opened the 1st Open Air Forum in Rome, held on October 28 and 29, emphasizing that campsites and holiday villages are the second largest form of accommodation after hotels. "Sustainability, accessibility, and digitalization are the three pillars on which our businesses are focusing their investments," said Granzotto, speaking to an audience of around a thousand entrepreneurs and stakeholders. Campsites and villages offering tailored services for people with disabilities could see a 10-15% increase in revenue, with peaks of up to 30%.
Salvio Capasso, Head of Business and Territory at SRM (the research center of the Intesa Sanpaolo group), presented the analysis *"Open Air Vision - A New Philosophy of Hospitality,"* highlighting how open-air tourism, traditionally strong in the North-East, is now expanding across the rest of Italy. Capasso forecasts a 10% growth in added value over the next three years, reaching 5.5 billion euros, driven by the enhancement of cultural, food, and beach tourism offerings.
The 2024 turnover for open-air tourism is estimated to exceed 8 billion euros, with 11.4 million arrivals and 71 million overnight stays at over 2,600 establishments, offering 1.5 million beds. To stay competitive with Spain and France, companies in the sector are renewing their offerings, as explained by Sergio Redaelli, CEO of Crippaconcept: "We are looking for solutions that combine comfort, Italian design, and respect for the environment."
