Isotta Fraschini Motori in collaboration with Fincantieri have inaugurated a new innovation and development center research and development center in Bari. The goal of the center is designing a new engine, which will satisfy future requirements in terms of power and emission reduction.
The focus on hydrogen and the financing from Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy and from European fund IPCEI Hy2Tech started the “IFuture Hydrogen” project, which will lead to the realization of two marine products powered by this fuel, namely a family of internal combustion engines and a modular fuel cell platform. Both will be dedicated to a power range of 500 to 4,000 kW and will lower CO2 emissions to values close to zero.
The R&D center of Bari will work on the “IFuture Hydrogen” project, which will work also on improving the reliability of nowadays engines, realizing new industrial version of engines addressed to generator set market for land application, studying of the new power management systems managing multiple sources of energy production (including renewables).
According to CEO of Fincantieri, Pierroberto Folgiero, the new center is an important part of a strategy strongly promoted by Fincantieri that will lead to the definition of increasingly efficient and sustainable products.
