Growing olive market
Among vegetable preserves, olives have the highest turnover, with nearly 295 million euros in sales through large-scale retail in 2023 – a 6.3% increase from the previous year.
Italy is one of the main global players in olive production. Companies in the sector cover all channels, from hospitality and catering (HORECA) to retail and the food industry, working on expanding their offerings and introducing new products, particularly aimed at domestic consumption and the premium market segment. Innovation is progressing along two main lines: the first focuses on more “natural” products (such as the premium range of “Ficacci” olives without oil, brine, or additives, sold in 100% recyclable paper packaging); the second offers more enticing options (such as stuffed olives).
