« Go back The Living Architecture of Vincenzo Carmenati:
A Bridge Between
Italy and Catalonia
As part of Barcelona 2026 World Capital of Architecture, the Barcelona City Council has included in its official program a prestigious exhibition dedicated to Vincenzo Carmenati. The showcase, organized by Casa degli Italiani, pays tribute to an architect who masterfully blended Milanese sensibility with the urban transformation of the Costa Brava.
Carmenati is celebrated for designing iconic projects that defined an era, such as the famous Maddox nightclub in Platja d'Aro, the Piper in Viareggio, and the Bugatti boutique in Barcelona, once ranked among the one hundred most beautiful storefronts in the world. Beyond his stylistic footprint, the architect held a key institutional role as President of the Territorial Planning Commission of the Council of Chambers.
The exhibition, titled "Vincenzo Carmenati: Architecture and Living Sculptures," will offer visitors a comprehensive journey: from biographical panels to artistic works (sculptures, drawings, and jewelry), including the world premiere of the Obló lighting collection.
The event will be held at the headquarters of Casa degli Italiani (Passatge de Méndez Vigo, 8) from March 5th to March 14th, accompanied by a rich program of activities:
- March 5th (7:00 PM): Institutional inauguration and presentation of the lighting collection "The Luminous Language of V. Carmenati’s Works."
- March 11th (7:00 PM): Round table discussion analyzing his visionary contribution to the territory.
- March 12th (7:00 PM): Online conference dedicated to the history and architecture of the Maddox Nightclub, led by architect Pol Esteve.
This initiative represents a unique opportunity to rediscover an author who transformed urban landscapes and interior design into true "sculptures to be lived in."
