Computer vision and precision animal husbandry

The 11th European Conference on Precision AnimalHusbandry was held in Bologna, an event that brought together experts to discuss innovative technologies aimed at making livestock farms more sustainable and efficient. Central to the discussion was the use of advanced tools such as computer vision and artificial intelligence to monitor and manage animals in a personalized way.

Precision animal husbandry relies on the collection and analysis of data in the barn to optimize animal nutrition, health and behavior. Technologies such as cameras and microphones make it possible to detect abnormalities, monitor growth, and prevent disease, improving animal welfare and reducing resource use.

This approach not only makes farms more productive, but also contributes to greater environmental sustainability by reducing waste and optimizing the use of feed, water, and medicines. However, challenges remain such as ease of use of technologies and protection of farmers' sensitive data.
